Today, Walmart Inc. announced first-quarter results for fiscal year 2027 with strong growth in revenue. In Walmart China, the net sales reached $8.0 billion in the first quarter, up 22.3% year on year, while eCommerce net sales grew 31%.

Q1 Highlights:

Walmart's total revenue for the first quarter was $177.8 billion, an increase of 7.3% year on year(excluding the impact of currency fluctuations, total revenue was $175.4 billion, up 5.9% year on year). Adjusted operating profit for the quarter was $7.5 billion, a 5.1% increase year on year.

In Walmart China, the net sales in first quarter reached $8.0 billion, up 22.3% year on year, with comparable sales growth of 13.1%. Strong business performance during the Chinese New Year provided a key driver of growth.

Sam's Club continued to see robust growth, adding nine new stores in the past 12 months, with double-digit growth in transactions.

In the first quarter, Walmart China's eCommerce net sales grew 31%, accounting for 50% of total net sales, an increase of 335 basis points compared to the same period last year.

Due to the ongoing format mix changes and higher eCommerce penetration, the gross profit rate decreased slightly in the quarter. Meanwhile, strong sales growth and format mix changes effectively offset by wage and marketing investments, keeping the operating expense rate flat year on year, ultimately driving increase in operating incomes.
