In March this year, Walmart adopted an innovative model to introduce orah mandarin from the core producing area in Yunnan Province. Current sales of the product through Walmart's omni-channel have increased by more than 70% compared with the same period last year. Walmart has realized all-link visual management for its direct sourcing of fresh produce. Taking orah mandarin as an example: high-quality fresh fruits in the core producing area of the Yunnan Plateau are picked, locally cleaned through automatic production lines, and packaged after passing quick sugar content, specification, appearance and other quality tests. These fruits are then sent to the Walmart fresh food distribution center for second-time quality inspection, and subsequently distributed to stores across China. All product data are visual. Through all-link visual management of direct sourcing, systematic and accurate distribution is achieved for every store every day.
The innovative management model ensures refined management for fresh produce. It also guarantees stable and excellent quality for fresh fruits delivered from the field to customers within 24 hours at the quickest. Currently, each batch of Yunnan orah mandarin sold in Walmart is guaranteed to have a Brix of 13% or higher. For their stable quality and taste, these products are loved by customers right upon their market launch, achieving rapid sales growth. This year, Walmart will expand the model to more product categories.
