    Walking along this year’s Spring Festival Items Street at Walmart, one finds themselves constantly refreshed by trendy items that come with a cyber-buzz. These items are an important part of Walmart's "Premium Items for the Spring Festival” collection. Over recent years, urban consumers in China are trading up and getting increasing personalized with their demands, with trendy items proving popular. In response, Walmart brought in more of these items this year, among which are the KBH Honeycomb Wok, bestseller of the online kitchen utensil category, hyped nut brand Three Squirrels as well as celebrity food brand Li Ziqi. Meanwhile, Walmart leveraged its market insights to work with the brands on developing new trend-setting products, bringing customers fresh and stylish shopping experiences.

    Cyber-famous items for the Spring Festival season

    In the development of new products, Walmart focuses on co-creation with the brands and product re-engineering to deliver unique personalized experiences for customers. Shuanghui Fire Whirlwind Sausage is one of the first launches in the effort. With insight suggesting younger customers prefer crispy sausages, Walmart’s buyers stepped in Shuanghui’s new product development process and introduced crispy chicken bones into the recipe for a tender and chewy texture. On packaging design, incorporation of animation figures caters to the aesthetics of younger generations. The launch created an instant hit with customers. 

    Many other consumer insights have been applied to item development. For example, Walmart’s newly out “cloud slippers” feature a more ergonomic design than those hot in livestreaming sales, made special by thick soles, anti-slip imprints and rainbow color options; Walmart-exclusive LUX Botanicals Hand Wash Liquid with hyped amino acid ensures both cleansing efficacy and gentleness, complete with rich bubbles and fragrance, a truly all-in-one sought after by customers.

    Walmart’s offer does not stop at Private Brands. Leveraging its strong supply chain and sourcing capabilities, Walmart has introduced many more value items on its Spring Festival Items Street. Walmart-exclusive Tide 2-in-1 Condensate Beads, on sales for RMB 62.8 from RMB 179.7; 55-inch TV set for less than RMB 2,000; American Tourister Disney Backpack for under RMB 200; 70% off OLAY facial masks…...These offers are comparable to Double Eleven Shopping Festival deals.

    To prevent holiday season supply shortage, Walmart has been stocking up, especially in life essential categories such as rice, flour, grains and oil, the inventory of which is up by 2-3 times. As more local customers are staying home this year, Walmart has stepped up fast meal supply including noodles, dumplings and instant noodles, making sure that won’t be a problem for those staying behind alone.
