This keynote speech presented several impedance and optical biosensors and their applications for rapid screening of foodborne bacteria. The challenges for detection of foodborne pathogens were analyzednd a system solution for rapid screening of foodborne bacteria was proposed to enhance food safety. Some new methods for bacteria magnetic separation and biosensing detection were developed and applied for monitoring of Salmonella in "Poultry Excellence in China" Project funded by Walmart Foundation. Besides, the future trends for biosensor development were summarized.
